Work with plans and specs, perform quantity takeoffs and estimate all General Construction job costs, including labor, material, equipment, and specialty items necessary to complete the project. Develop scope, solicit, analyze and compare subcontractor and supplier proposals. Insure adequate and qualified sub/supplier coverage and participate in bid day closeout. Provide updated information necessary to maintain subcontractor databases. Provide input as requested for pre-bid project schedules and technical proposals.
Review project plans, requirements, and specifications.
Have demonstrated abilities to work with and coordinate with a team of estimators to develop a large multidisciplinary estimate.
Review and understand all bid documents and assess project risks
Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing.
Determine labor and equipment costs.
Understand project logistics and project schedule.
Compare and analyze competitive subcontract and supplier bids.
Review quotes and estimates with the Project Management Team.
Prepare estimates at different levels of completion (conceptual, schematic, DD, CD, etc.)
Perform certain post-bid buyouts.
Perform preconstruction duties and meetings with Clients, Owners and Architect/Engineers.
Performs a comprehensive “bid day” analysis and scoping of specific assigned trades.
Understands how to fit subcontractors to the size/scope of project.
Provides value-engineering ideas.
Prepares subcontract bid packages and transmits addenda and other bid information as necessary.
Shows creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors.
Develops RFI’s and clarifications and ensures adequate subcontractor coverage.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum 5-15 years of experience working as an Estimator for a construction company performing commercial, industrial and/or government contracting; new and renovation projects size $1-$40 mil. Engineering or Construction Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Strong knowledge of construction techniques, costs and scheduling required. Experience with both plan/spec and Design-Build preferred. Basic computer skills and good understanding of spreadsheets is essential. Experience with estimating software such as MC2, Timberline and On-Screen Takeoff is preferred. Ideal candidate should have experience with Federal Government contracts particularly military projects. Possess effective presentation skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills. Well organized, flexible, detail oriented and multi-tasked.
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Assignment would be our Jacksonville, FL office; some travel may be required to visit project sites located in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
