System One Services has positions for Cost Engineers for our utility client located in Washington, D.C. Positions are available at the Junior and Senior levels.
The Cost Engineer will be providing comprehensive project cost control to a group of projects, supporting one or more project managers. We are looking for someone with:
3+ years of cost accounting, cost engineering, finance or related experience
Experience with accrual-based accounting, monthly close cycles, project-based forecasting and costing, and cost reporting.
Experience working with A&E, construction, utilities, or consulting companies.
BS in accounting, construction management, engineering, finance preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education. PMP, CCP, PSP or similar certifications a plus.
Ability to track, forecast, and monitor costs in a project environment. Ability to handle multiple projects, tight deadlines, and high volume of work.
Excellent software skills, especially MS Excel.
A bias toward problem solving and action, positive, forward-thinking, and exceptional at follow-through.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Obtains project or program actual cost reports from the financial system.
Maintains accurate Detailed Cost Spreadsheets of project cost information and properly stores this data on the Exelon server network.
Working with Project and Program Managers, prepares and issues forecast reports showing project or program monthly expenditure forecasts.
Works with the Project and Program Managers to update forecasts and identify variations when comparing actual costs to original forecasts and current forecasts to prior forecasts.
Prepares monthly accruals and accounting journal entries and recommends corrections when project analysis identifies errors in project accounting.
Meets with the Project and Program Managers to update project or program accrual information. Provides updated project or program accrual information to Finance for processing.
Run and issue various cost reports such as material reports, variance reports, etc. for use by the PMs and Manager of Projects.
Assists with the authorization of new projects and the set-up of new projects within the financial system.
Maintains project budgets and long range plan in the financial system.
