JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
You possess a strong understanding of risk management, project management, risk analysis modeling and data analytics. You have strong presentation/business writing and facilitation skills for meetings, trainings, workshops with project teams and senior management.
You are responsible to sustain, enhance and develop risk practices, procedures and necessary risk models for capital projects (generation, transmission and distribution). You are responsible to enable project teams to follow Project & Portfolio Management Risk Practices and risk standards. You monitor, identify, and summarize material portfolio risks by consulting with management teams and analyzing projects risk reports.
You are detailed oriented but can also speak about the big picture. You can summarize complex analysis (including risk and related project information) into something meaningful for verbal and visual communication to senior leaders and other stakeholders.
You are proactive and willing to take on unplanned challenges and adaptable to changing priorities. You possess a broad mind with a desire to learn and grasp new and complex problems quickly, particularly where no precedent exists. You have a helpful and team player mindset and make it a priority to establish relationships.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the Practice Lead for the Project Risk Management Practice as part of BC Hydro’s Project & Portfolio Management Practices. Engage stakeholders from Project Delivery and relevant key business units to advocate and advance projects risk management. Ensure that appropriate risk management initiatives are identified and implemented. Conduct PPM
compliance audit in relevant risk management areas
- Provide SME (Subject Matter Expert) support to projects on key risk management activities including identification, analysis, evaluation and treatment plan development of risks. As needed, conduct key risk review and risk workshop facilitation via collaborating with scheduling, estimating and commercial management teams
- Act as an advocate to advance risk management and analysis in a deliberate manner across the project to ensure consistency. Develop and delivery risk management trainings to project teams as part of PPM training roadmap
- Participate in project inquiries related to risk management (typically for large projects, e.g., projects’ regulatory filings) and coordinate portfolio risk reporting to management, senior leaders and external regulatory parties
- Engage with Project Managers, stakeholders and senior management to obtain information and insights into projects/portfolio risks and performance, and ability to ask questions and probe to find meaningful explanations
- Conduct portfolio view of risks and Lessons Learned across projects.
- Lead the design and development of portfolio and project risk reports (with the support from analytics teams) which can be leveraged to highlight key projects/portfolio risks in aggregate which may not be apparent within the individual projects
- Liaising with Enterprise Risk Management team to share learnings and keep abreast of BCH-wide risk initiatives and updates
- When needed, lead portfolio level initiatives in relevant area
Qualifications:
- Bachelor or master’s degree in Risk Management, Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Economics, Science is preferred
- Minimal 12 years of relevant work experience, which must include demonstrated capabilities in risk management, project management, cost & schedule forecasting/controls, and/or estimating for capital projects
- Strong presentation, facilitation, communication and business writing skills with proven experience in communicating (verbal and written) to project managers, directors and senior leaders
- Ability to stay on-top of multiple deadlines, and prioritize as needed without direction
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders (professionals to senior management), and influence and implement change
- Ability to work with diverse teams of varying technical backgrounds
- Advanced to expert analytical capabilities, including developing deterministic or probabilistic models, as well as
understanding of statistical knowledge
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential
- Advanced reporting capabilities including ability to communicate at both detailed and summary level adapting to audience
- The following skills/capabilities would be considered assets:
o A professional designation such as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP), or other relevant designation
o Monte Carlo simulation approach and tools (e.g., Palisades @Risk)
o Experience in project regulatory filing processes
o Accessing data using SAP Business Warehouse (SAP-BW) and AFO
- Exceptional planning, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
